Character Name: Seto Kaiba
Age: 17
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters (anime)
Canon Point: Post-finale
Character History: Here
Canon Abilities: No supernatural or above-human abilities. He's a completely ordinary non-magical human and is perfectly satisfied with that life, thank you.
His human strengths include computer hacking (90s style), invention of small gadgets (especially with holograms and virtual reality), and strategy in skilled games like chess.
Inventory:
A deck of Duel Monsters cards, kept in his thick belt buckle
A card-shaped locket around his neck, containing a photo of his little brother Mokuba
🦋 Personality
Option 1:
- Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
- What mythological creature would your character most like to be? Which do they identify with? Which would they dread being? Feel free to use our Bestiary for reference.
- If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
- What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
- Day
- Dusk
- Autumn
For most of his life, Kaiba was firmly against the belief that magic was real. Something so intangible and illogical made no sense, he knew no one with the ability, so he would shape the world through his intelligence and ability in engineering alone.
Unfortunately for him, just because he had a disdain for magic didn't mean it would pass him by. Once he seized control of Kaiba Corporation and became fixated on becoming the greatest duelist in the world, he terrorized the grandfather of another young duelist and paid the price. Yugi Mutou, a rival duelist aided by the pharaoh’s spirit residing in the ancient Egyptian puzzle he wore, shattered Kaiba's twisted soul and forced him into a magic-induced coma to rebuild himself.
Shortly after Kaiba awakened, his brother's soul was stolen and sealed in a card by another of the ancient Egyptian artifacts, the Millennium Eye. After a failed attempt to rescue his brother, his own soul was taken as well. As the months went on, Kaiba regularly observed people being possessed and controlled by the other Millennium Items.
No matter how big the disruptions got, he treated them as annoyances to be overcome. Someone was severely weakened in a duel when magic was used against them? Wheel them off to medical and hope they live. Someone can't remember their day because they were possessed? Annoying, but it happens.
His greatest annoyance was his belief that Yugi and Pharaoh Atem use the magic of the Millennium Puzzle to 'cheat' at Duel Monsters. Kaiba thoroughly believes in the game as the ultimate test of skill, and he's watched time and time again as he's backed them into a corner only for them to top-deck the winning card at the last second. In most respects Kaiba will work around magic, but he deeply resents those he perceives to be using it for an unfair advantage.
Kaiba's heart only has room for one mythological creature: the Blue Eyes White Dragon. His most treasured card in Duel Monsters, the shining beast with terrifying claws and lightning breath represents ultimate freedom and power to him. His love for the dragon has been twisted in the past, but it's been with him since childhood, and even in his past life before reincarnation.
As an orphaned child in a depressing situation, he had daydreams about flying away from his troubles with his brother Mokuba on the great creature's back. Mokuba even scribbled a drawing of the Blue Eyes card because he couldn't afford the real card at the time. That drawing was precious, and when his cruel adopted father separated the brothers and took away all their toys and childish things, Mokuba smuggled the drawing into a textbook to inspire his brother.
The moment Kaiba was free from his father's chains and became a duelist, he set about obtaining three Blue Eyes cards, threatening violence against their previous owners to do so. He craved power and domination at the expense of all else, and power was perfectly represented by Blue Eyes.
Even after Kaiba was forced to rebuild his heart and his tunnel vision focus on power was broken, his loyalty to the Blue Eyes never faded. It remained his most powerful ally in the game, even more important and beloved than the on-paper more powerful God Card he owned.
If the Blue Eyes was not an option, Kaiba would settle for being another dragon, or a griffin. Maybe a large kaiju. Any creature he turns into needs to have freedom of movement and the strength to conquer the world, that's non-negotiable. In other words, don't make him a merperson or something. Far too little mobility. Golems are too slow, and pixies too small. He needs to not only feel powerful, but look the part as well.
Mokuba is a very close second, the brother he adores, and risks so much for. If he had to choose between staying with Mokuba or following Atem, it would be a painful choice. But the only person he would likely have to follow to another realm is Atem, the dead pharaoh whose spirit had resided in Yugi Mutou's Millennium Puzzle. His greatest rival, the only duelist he's never been able to defeat.
Their relationship started off as entirely antagonistic, as Kaiba was threatening Yugi's family at the time, but after Kaiba rebuilt his heart, a more equal rivalry began between them. Their initial encounters after this were still heated, with death threats (entirely on Kaiba’s part) giving way to boasting, but over time a respect steadily grew between them. Dueling Atem helped Kaiba to feel alive and fulfilled like nothing else.
Atem saved Kaiba's life more than once. They both encouraged each other throughout the Battle City tournament , demanding that the other not give up when backed into a corner. No one was worthy to defeat either of them but the other. Their rivalry stretched back thousands of years, even, with the eventual revelation that Kaiba was the incarnation of Set, one of Atem's priests. Though Kaiba would absolutely deny being a reincarnation of Priest Set, and absolutely hated being compared to him...ultimately the shoe fit. Like Set, Kaiba had antagonized Atem, but ultimately came to respect and honor him as his sole equal.
And then Atem did the worst thing possible: he departed to his afterlife after being bested by Yugi in a duel. Kaiba witnessed this, but he was denied the chance to duel Atem one more time (and thus, Kaiba never get his King of Games title back). He would do just about anything to see his greatest rival again. In fact, Kaiba's manga universe counterpart did just that by using the powers of dangerous science and willpower to break into the afterlife. This Kaiba hasn't gone to that extreme, but he definitely could.
It's often said to be pride, and there's a solid case for that as well, but stubbornness edges that out just slightly. Yes, Kaiba is very arrogant and self-assured in his intelligence and abilities. He values projecting strength, insults other duelists of lesser skill, and he claims he's the best duelist even when that's objectively untrue.
But no matter the trauma he suffers, the amount of losses he endures, or the odds stacked against him, he never, ever gives up. It's a weird fusion of pride and stubbornness, but he will not allow himself to remain a loser. 'To lose is to die' had been his adoptive father's mantra, so he simply will not. Even when Kaiba loses, he'll demand a rematch.
His ability to dig in his heels out of stubbornness extends beyond the game. He'll fight through endless armed guards and even risk his life to rescue his brother, barely flinching as guns are pointed at him. He'll go up against duelist opponents who are clearly using magic against him, determined to duel to the end against the odds. Even when he's been told by a woman who can see the future that he's destined to lose and that the future is written, he'll muster his willpower and fight to rewrite it then and there. In that case, he even succeeded and proved that destiny isn't written in stone.
For anything involving his primary goals of protecting Mokuba and defeating Atem in a fair duel, there's virtually no mountain too high to climb.

nightmare within (cw: implied death, allusions to past evil deeds and child abuse)
After he returns home, night is a different story. Kaiba thinks he's safe, and yet...
Kaiba is falling, falling, surrounded by shards of glass. Each shard reflects the pained face of a person he's hurt: an innocent person terrorized for his business goals, a card player in the way of his total domination...his brother, cowering away from his rage. The screams blend into a roar tearing at him, and...
The scene shifts, and instead he's suspended in the air by ribbons in a variety of colors. Each appears to be held by the indistinct ghostly form of someone who might be an ally or friend. Their smiling faces give him a moment of reprieve, and then...glass shards fall and hit the ghostly forms of people he might form bonds with, their smiling faces turning to disgust. They let go as if burned. And Kaiba falls again, straight into a drab and desolate cage. The door slams shut, and familiar cold laughter echoes in his ears.
"Only a fool denies who they are...and I didn't raise a fool."

Character Name: Seto Kaiba
Species: Human
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters anime
Canon Point: Post-final episode
Character Age: 17
CRAU: No
CRAU Explanation: N/A
Character Appearance: linework, color
Powers and Abilities: Has no superhuman abilities. Regular human skills include:
-Hacking
-Virtual reality programming
-Tactical mind well suited to puzzles and games of skill
-Some training in judo martial arts and football/soccer
What Did Your Character Wish For? To somehow regain his title of King of Games. He's never won a Duel Monsters game against his two important rivals. Maybe this will change that. (At this canon point he has his brother safe, this is the one thing he wants and doesn't have)
What Potion Did They Receive? Red (elemental magic)
Did They Drink It? Not yet, but he's holding onto it. If he's later convinced to drink it, he will start setting off small electrical shocks (like static electricity strength) from his fingers.
Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most?
Mokuba Kaiba, his little brothers. The two brothers lost their parents when Seto was seven and Mokuba was four, and they were briefly bounced around from relatives who stole their inheritance before dumping them at an orphanage. No potential adopters came along who wanted both of them, so Seto manipulated the CEO of a weapons manufacturing company into a deal to adopt them. Seto endured harsh training and being molded into a cutthroat corporate type so he could give Mokuba a comfortable life, but he took to the training a little too well and became cold and ruthless.
Seto took on the role of Mokuba's guardian once their adoptive father was removed from the picture, and the two of them are willing to risk anything to protect each other. Seto is determined to win any game, because 'to lose is to die' as his adopted father taught him. But Mokuba is the one person he'll back down from a game for. Mokuba fears the changes in his brother and misses when they were happier...but he hangs on, and hopes for his brother's smile to come back.
2. What are they most afraid of?
Kaiba is most afraid of loss. 'To lose is to die', after all. At first, this manifests as a fear of losing important card duels (though in fairness losing duels in his world can have bad consequences, like losing your soul to a madman). He's also afraid of losing face, losing his dignity. But losing his brother is his biggest fear of all. He will mow down any opponent who stands between him and his brother, no matter what it takes...and when Kaiba fears he's lost Mokuba, that's when he loses all grip on rationality.
3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically?
Kaiba's biggest emotional weakness is, ironically, that he believes that forming bonds with other people is a weakness. He is well aware that his attachment to his brother Mokuba opens him up to extortion attacks and manipulation, so he avoids forging bonds with anyone else for the most part. He did form a connection of respect and mild trust with his biggest rivals in Duel Monsters...but he's fiercely in denial about it. It takes time for him to realize that emotional vulnerability isn't the worst thing ever.
His biggest mental weakness is stubborn single-minded fixation on winning his title back. 'To lose is to die' tends to lead toward him stubbornly throwing himself over and over again at what seems to be the most obvious solution, convinced that he in his genius is correct, and overlooking less obvious solutions. He's especially prone to this problem if an easier way to solve the problem is through cooperation, but he'll have to work on that.
His biggest physical weakness? Well. He is roughly string-bean shaped, and though he has some athletic ability, he's still a squishy human with a slight build and easy to throw around.
4. What would make them happiest?
It's difficult for Kaiba, because he hardly remembers a time when he was happy. But he believes that living in a world with his brother at his side safe and sound would be best. If he were to win his King of Games title back and have his pride intact, it would be even better. Ultimately, though...what he thinks he needs is the dueling title. What he actually needs for his happiness is safety and security.
Which might come to him if he ever loosens up and forges a few bonds! It'll be a work in progress.
5. What’s their type for a lover?
Kaiba's currently too emotionally stunted to think consciously about romance, but the closest thing he's ever felt to that type of bond is his rivalry with the pharaoh Atem. Atem both intrigues and infuriates him because he's as skilled in games as Kaiba, always keeps him guessing, and projects authority despite his slight stature. Ultimately, in a relationship, Kaiba would want to feel intellectually stimulated. He gets a sort of adrenaline rush in high-stakes duels, especially against his favorite opponent.
And while Kaiba isn't the best at understanding concepts like 'friendship', Atem has taught him the power of cooperation. A skilled person he can fully respect and even trust, somewhat...that's what he would look for in a lover, if he could think in those terms.

'there is only one blanket'
It's a classic conundrum. The wind is howling, the snow is falling, this building somehow lacks the slightest bit of electricity. And a very grumpy young man is stuck here, with a single ratty blanket. Another unfortunate soul is here with him as well. It's quite cold, and he has to continuously rub his hands together to stimulate blood flow.
But there's a blanket. As thin as it is, it would assist in retaining body heat. If he were to take it, though...that would be an unacceptable display of weakness in front of his unfortunate companion, would it not? No. Unacceptable. He will glare at it.
"Take it," is his terse response.

Character Information
Character Name: Seto Kaiba
Age: 18
Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters (Anime)
Canon Point: Immediately post-Ceremonial Duel (episode 224)
World Information: Yu-Gi-Oh takes place in Domino City, a fictional Japanese city of the late 90s---structurally similar to Tokyo but not quite as big. The world is largely similar to the real Earth, aside from the bits of ancient magic that the main cast sometimes get caught up in.
Character Information:
History up through the section labeled 'Dawn of the Duel'. His canon point is the immediate aftermath of this.
Personality:
In picturing what this character is like, consider these facts: Seto Kaiba is 17 years old, the CEO of the biggest gaming technology company in his country, and the number 2 ranked player of said country's most popular spectator sport. The basic assumptions a person is likely to make about his personality knowing only those facts would be largely correct: he's incredibly driven and competitive, has an ego the size of the sun, and he'd be that guy on Survivor who yells 'I'm not here to make friends!' at every contestant who even looks at him funny.
Kaiba believes he is one of the greatest strategic mind in the world. Losing his first duel against Yugi sent him into a revenge-fueled obsession with the man, determined to rematch him until he can reclaim his title. Kaiba never gives up no matter how many times he loses against Yugi, throwing all his intensity into every rematch. You'd think Kaiba hated his opponent, and he sometimes claims he does. But behind the tangle of insults in their duels, there's an underlying layer of respect. Yugi is the one person who's ever given Kaiba an incredible (and mostly fair) fight, and he says repeatedly that he feels most alive during a thrilling match. Kaiba believes wholeheartedly in his superior ability, yet anyone who can challenge him is worthy of grudging respect.
Outside of the dueling field or the arcade, though, the first impression other tamers are likely to get of Kaiba is that he's incredibly resistant to overtures of friendship. After a lifetime of being betrayed by nearly every adult in his life, and the social isolation that came with having to raise his brother alone, he struggles to relate to people with normal childhoods. When he's pitted against his story's optimistic friendship-powered protagonists, he openly derides them for clinging to each other for support, claiming these attachments are weaknesses.
He knows this very well because his single most powerful bond, with his younger brother Mokuba, is his greatest weakness. Mokuba's spot in Seto's heart is regularly exploited by the greater villains of the story: kidnapped, mind-controlled, turned against him. In all these instances, Seto sets all other concerns aside. His brother's safety means everything, even if it means he has to forfeit a game or work with Yugi's Friendship Brigade to save him.
Kaiba's other powerful bond is to the Blue Eyes White Dragon, one of Duel Monsters' most powerful cards and his personal ace. The card has lingered in his dreams since childhood, a symbol of power and freedom for a trapped and powerless boy. She's the pride and joy of his deck, and the admiration he displays for this dragon can be a little...excessive. The company's branding is modeled after her, the HQ and theme park are covered in her brand, his favorite coat is modeled after her, and his personal private jet is modeled after her as well. He loves dragons, and will be especially likely to chat with dragon Digimon and their tamers so he can admire their strength.
Finally, Kaiba isn't all ego and attitude. Just mostly. Aside from his sometimes-excessive love for dragons, he has a noted soft spot for children. Despite the hardening of his heart, he hung onto his childhood dream of building a fantasy theme park that orphaned kids could freely enjoy, and he made it a reality. He's also capable of working against a common enemy, and he goes out of his way to keep Yugi and friends alive during more than one crisis. If asked the reason, he'd likely claim 'Yugi won't duel me if I let them die', but there's some glimmer of a conscience in there.
To sum it up, Kaiba can be a difficult person to be around. He's highly competitive (and is likely to try to 'win' at Digimon training), his ego's so powerful that he believes he can accomplish anything, and he's resistant to making friends. But he's just level-headed enough to be willing to work with others for a common good, and 'saving our worlds' is a pretty important common good!
Abilities: Kaiba is a completely ordinary human and is very happy that he has not been marked by magic. He has some athletic potential, but he's been too busy running around playing card games and striking business deals to hone it beyond throwing his cards around like knives.
Intellectually, he's a talented computer programmer specializing in video games and AI. He's built game worlds of his own, and is able to inject his code into others' worlds...not that he'll likely be doing so here, of course. He has some business sense and ability to negotiate, but his temper and pride can sometimes get in the way of making the best possible deal.
Items:
-Duel Disk (darm brace with a table-like attachment, used to project holographic images of cards. Digivice.)
-Duel Monsters deck

Digimon:
Digimon Partner:
Baby: Petitmon
Baby II: Babydmon
Child: Dracomon
Undecided from here. She'll be starting as Petitmon.
Personality: Dracomon is a happy Digimon who loves all things fun and games, and as a dragon she'll win her Seto-kun's heart quickly. She's naturally curious about the world, pleasant to almost everyone she meets, and a contrast to her tamer's grumpy sourpuss face. She loves Seto and is fiercely loyal to him, but she thinks his crankiness is funny. It's also super-fun to prank him! But the most important thing to remember around her is simple: hide your valuables! She has a large appetite and loves to chomp on shiny objects, especially gems and jewels.

Questionnaire:
How do you feel about being brought to another world?
I'll do what I have to. If it's a programming expert you need to navigate your digital world, you've asked the right person. And I'd probably worry more about data security if I were you, this all has a potential to bleed into the 'real world' this one's tethered to, doesn't it?
What are you going to miss most about the world you call home?
Having money. I take it I can't throw blank checks around here.
[ He briefly touches his locket after answering: the true answer is different, but there's no way he's telling these idiots about his brother. ]
Can you tell us anything about the world you came from?
Technology level appears to be similar to what's been built here. The last digital world I entered ended up being a platform for a madman to attempt to launch a full-scale takeover, so again: I really hope you all know what you're doing.
What do you think about the idea of having a Digimon partner?
I'll bring out their full potential. They'd better be ready to train hard with me, we have work to do!
[ And he hopes they're a dragon. That'd be nice. ]
A dangerous Digimon is after you! What do you do?!
Try to make distance and observe. Plan a strategy with my partner and take it out! There won't be anything we can't handle.
[ 'But what if there is....?']
Fine, if you insist. I'll inform other Tamers in the area. We'll coordinate a group attack if needed.

I'll do what I have to. If it's a programming expert you need to navigate your digital world, you've asked the right person. And I'd probably worry more about data security if I were you, this all has a potential to bleed into the 'real world' this one's tethered to, doesn't it?
Having money. I take it I can't throw blank checks around here.
[ He briefly touches his locket after answering: the true answer is different, but there's no way he's telling these idiots about his brother. ]
Technology level appears to be similar to what's been built here. The last digital world I entered ended up being a platform for a madman to attempt to launch a full-scale takeover, so again: I really hope you all know what you're doing.
I'll bring out their full potential. They'd better be ready to train hard with me, we have work to do!
[ And he hopes they're a dragon. That'd be nice. ]
Try to make distance and observe. Plan a strategy with my partner and take it out! There won't be anything we can't handle.
[ 'But what if there is....?']
Fine, if you insist. I'll inform other Tamers in the area. We'll coordinate a group attack if needed.
